Senior Training Manager

The Alliance for Youth Action (along with our sister 501(c)(3) organization the Alliance for Youth Organizing) is searching for a Senior Training Manager who will project manage the training initiatives provided to our fast-growing multiracial network, create content, and facilitate in-person and virtual trainings. We are looking for someone with campaigning experience who is highly organized, takes initiative, and enjoys leading trainings. This role reports to the Mobilization and Campaigns Director and is a full-time position based in the United States with an end date of December 31, 2024, with the possibility for extension depending on organizational needs (see Logistics, below). Alliance for Youth Organizing is a unionized workplace, and staff are represented by the Washington-Baltimore News Guild, Local 32035; this position is a part of the bargaining unit.

The Alliance convenes, supports, and scales a national network of youth-led, locally rooted organizations growing civic engagement and social justice coast to coast. We truly are a multiracial network “of young people, by young people, for all people.” Our Affiliates and Partners run massive voter registration and get-out-the-vote drives, train new young leaders, and run powerful campaigns to win on the progressive issues our generation cares about most. Our national team empowers this work by tracking down national resources for the network, building capacity for local groups, seeding new efforts, and coordinating national issue campaigns.

Job Requirements

Training Management (40%) | Ensure a robust training program exists to meet the needs of the network

  • Project manage the training initiatives within the Capacity Building Department, including creating workplans, leading working groups, overseeing task management, and coordinating between departments and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and manage operations needs for virtual and in-person events such as intensive bootcamp webinars or in-person convenings.
  • Manage contractors and outside experts who may create and lead training materials for the network.
  • Evaluate training programs to identify successes and growth areas, and regularly solicit feedback to ensure the Alliance is running effective trainings.

Material Development (25%) | Create and maintain training-related collateral

  • Revamp the Alliance’s internal repository (Shared Resource Library) of trainings, manuals, research, templates focused on advocacy, base building, civic engagement, and electoral programs. Identify needs, create new resources, and promote to the network.
  • Identify gaps and opportunities for training resources for the Alliance network in our Shared Resource Library or developing one-off webinars and trainings.
  • Develop and write different types of training material, including written guides, training slides, scripts for trainers, and worksheets.
  • Write and copy edit training materials. Create clear and visually appealing slide decks.

Lead Trainings (35%) | Execute trainings for network staff

  • Lead an intensive virtual bootcamp for electoral program managers to create GOTV plans, including creating materials and managing all logistics.,
  • Facilitate and lead in-person and virtual trainings that clearly communicate key concepts, teach audiences in engaging ways, and create inclusive and participatory environments in larger groups and small group discussions.

Key Qualifications & Experience

  • Baseline Skills
    • Ideal candidates will have at least three years of training, organizing, and campaign management experience in progressive political campaigns, grassroots organizing, or similar organizations.
    • Organizing experience as a field, campus, or community organizer, working with voters and volunteers. Experience with youth organizing is preferred but not required.
    • Experience working with underrepresented and/or diverse communities and an understanding of how disenfranchised communities can build power through organizing.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects, plan backward, anticipate obstacles, troubleshoot, and make smart judgment calls as needed.
    • Comfort with technology and virtual communication systems, including Zoom, Google Hangouts, Slack, Asana, etc.
  • Training and Management
    • Experience leading group and one-on-one trainings (in-person and virtual) to audiences with varying levels of technical skill. Comfortable and confident leading large in-person and virtual trainings.
    • Preferred experience in tool creation around key organizing tactics including personal storytelling, train the trainer, one-on-ones, and high-traffic canvassing
    • Proven ability to work collaboratively and project manage across teams to ensure goals, deliverables, and deadlines are met.

Logistics

  • Compensation: $69,787 – $82,000 per year commensurate with experience.

  • Location: This is a full-time position based in the United States. All Alliance staff are required to live within about an hour from major airports in most US states; more detail will be provided to finalists as relevant. Moving reimbursements are offered to employees who need to move for this position.
  • Travel: Domestic travel for this role may be up to 30% of this position. Must be willing to work periodically long, irregular hours and to travel as needed.
  • COVID-19: The Alliance currently requires employees to be fully vaccinated and boosted in order to travel on behalf of the Alliance. Additionally, there may be vaccine requirements for attendees at Alliance, Network, or partner events.
  • End date: This position has an end date of December 31, 2024, with the possibility of extension based on organizational needs.
