The Alliance for Youth Action Condemns Any Unconstitutional Efforts to Centralize Election Authority
WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to President Trump’s Executive Order to exert federal control over voter rolls and mail-in ballots, Dakota Hall, Executive Director of The Alliance for Youth Action —the country’s largest progressive grassroots youth network—released the following statement:
“Let’s be clear about what Trump just did: he signed an order giving his own administration the power to decide which Americans get a ballot. A citizenship list built by DHS — the same system that has already wrongly flagged U.S. citizens as ineligible — will now determine whether you get to vote. That is not election integrity. That is a federal takeover of the ballot.
“Courts blocked his last executive order on elections. Congress killed his SAVE Act. He couldn’t win through legitimate means, so now he’s trying to seize control of the machinery itself, mere months before a midterm where young people are ready to show up and end his majority. Students voting from college, first-time voters, veterans, married women, and workers who rely on mail ballots aren’t an oversight in this order. They’re the target.
“This action is an appalling attack on our democracy by President Trump. He failed in the courts, failed in Congress, and he will fail here, too.”
