The Alliance for Youth Action Condemns Any Unconstitutional Efforts to Centralize Election Authority

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to reports that allies of President Trump are circulating a draft executive order claiming foreign interference as grounds to declare a national emergency and control over mail ballots and voting machines, Dakota Hall, Executive Director of The Alliance for Youth Action —the country’s largest progressive grassroots youth network—released the following statement:

“Donald Trump has spent six years losing in courtrooms, losing in audits, and losing the argument on election fraud. His response is to declare a national emergency based on the bamboo fibers and fever dreams and use it to strip millions of young people of their right to vote before 2026. This is what happens when someone with authoritarian impulses and no grip on reality gets elected twice. Alliance for Youth Action represents 21 organizations across 19 states. Young people already handed him losses in 2018, 2020, and 2022. He’s been throwing a tantrum about it ever since. We are ready to send him to an overdue retirement.”

“We know students cast ballots by mail while attending school, and others rely on access to modern voting equipment at on-campus polling sites. If this unconstitutional power grab succeeds, young people everywhere—many of whom are first-time voters—will be silenced overnight.

“The Alliance for Youth Action strongly condemns this attack on our right to vote. We will continue organizing alongside young people in every corner of our country to fight back and defend the constitutional guardrails that protect our democracy.”
