These wins are a testament to movement created by young people, but it is just the beginning. We must keep fighting to ensure the bold solutions and ideas we need are at the forefront.
Washington – This morning, Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Bernie Sanders announced the members of the six Unity Task Forces that will offer recommendations to the Democratic National Committee platform and to the Biden campaign.
The groups who signed the #EarnOurVote letter: Alliance for Youth Action, Justice Democrats, IfNotNow Movement, March for Our Lives Action Fund, NextGen America, Student Action, Sunrise Movement, and United We Dream Action released the following statement:
“Today’s announcement is a major win for youth organizations that are building political power for young people across the country. The appointments of some of the leaders we demanded be involved with the Biden Campaign, Transition Team, and Administration to the Unity Task Forces show the impact of our power and our collective push for solutions that match the crisis that we are facing.
Our generation is the future of this country and this election is the fight of our lives. In the primary, Biden did not receive the support of a vast majority of voters under 45 years old, but he will need young people’s support to win in November.
We hope the Biden team will continue to listen to and consult with youth leaders and our demands as it advances its campaign, and makes actual appointments to its transition team and Administration. We need to see continued commitments from them and the DNC to promote the solutions that galvanize our generation and give us hope in the political process. Today, we are one step closer.
We are committed to motivating and mobilizing voters to defeat Trump, and we are committed to continue the fight for a bold vision for the future.”
