Our Values

Our North Star

We want to create a world where our democracy works for everyone and where all people – no matter where they come from, what they look like, or how they identify – live in loving, safe, and thriving communities.

Our 2020 Values

As the Alliance for Youth Action network of affiliates, we have identified shared core values that bind us, make us stronger together, and push us to mobilize and turn out the largest voting bloc in the country.

Voting Rights

Voting is a fundamental right that should be protected and expanded for everyone. We will continue to advocate for policies that allow voting in county jails, restore voting rights, promote automatic voter registration, support campus polling locations, and defend democracy from the rise of right-wing authoritarian white nationalism.

Reimagining Public Safety & Divestment

Safe and thriving communities are ones that divest from police budgets and focus on preventive measures, such as investments in education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. We know that policing and criminalization have not made our communities safer and that alternative public safety models are necessary to create the kind of communities where young people can thrive.

Abortion Action & Rights

We believe that access to abortion care is essential for individuals to exercise their reproductive rights and make decisions about their own bodies and lives. We will continue to advocate for policies that promote reproductive justice and healthcare for all.

Climate Crisis & Environment

The climate crisis is one of our society’s most urgent challenges, disproportionately impacting communities of color. We stand together in fighting the climate crisis and promoting environmental justice. We will continue to advocate for policies that promote public power, energy democracy, affordable housing, local green economies, and environmental justice.

Housing Rights

Economic justice and housing stability are essential components of a just and equitable society. We will continue to advocate for policies that implement and broaden rent control, provide tenants with the right to counsel, fight gentrification, and invest in affordable housing.
